Landfill

Overview

If you have a pickup/trailer, you may haul bulky materials to Southwest Landfill at no charge to you by showing a copy of your water bill to landfill personnel. Residency will be verified. Each solid waste fee paying customer is allowed twelve (12) free pickup loads per year. Each trip to the landfill shall be limited to two (2) loads or the equivalent of a pickup bed and small trailer. Oversized loads delivered to the landfill will be rejected by landfill personnel or regular landfill rates will be charged to the customer, if the two (2) load equivalent is exceeded.

Any waste generated by a contractor becomes the resident’s (contractor’s) responsibility. Any scrap materials from remodeling, carpet replacement, wall board, brick work, fence replacement, lawn service and tree trimmings produced by a contractor, shall be disposed of by the resident or contractor, not by the City. Contractors will not be allowed to use residents’ water bill as payment for their disposal. They will be charged the regular landfill rates.

If you are not a City of Canyon resident or have exceeded your allowable trips for the year, the minimum fee is $15.00 or $30.47 per ton.

When planning your trip to the Landfill, please allow enough time for processing your load. Please do not show up at 4:55 PM. The Landfill staff will appreciate your consideration of their time.

Items not permitted in the landfill: 

Refrigerators, Freezers, A/C Units and any other items containing CFC’s (Freon)

Tires

Hazardous Waste

Wet Paint

Oil

Used Oil Filters

Batteries

Untreated Medical Waste

Pesticides
